Originally invented in Germany, sour gummies are now enjoyed all around the world. They’re a great treat for kids ages 9 to 90 and are a fairly low-calorie dessert.

Whether you want to serve up sour gummies at a child’s birthday or you’re simply craving this timeless treat, we’re here for you. Check out these recipes for creating your own homemade sour gummy!

The Simple Gummy

Let’s start by keeping things simple. This four-ingredient dessert is one of the easiest gummy recipes out there.

To make it, you’ll need to gather the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 3 packets of unflavored gelatin
  • 1/2 packet of unsweetened KoolAid
  • 2 packets of Jell-O mix

You can select any flavor for the KoolAid and the Jell-O. Just choose your favorite flavors or try a mix of something new!

Once you have your ingredients, it’s time to get to work. You’ll start by finding either an 8×8 inch pan or candy molds

Next, spray the pan or molds with cooking spray. Make sure that you get into every corner of the molds so that they don’t stick.

Then, boil the water. As soon as the water is bubbling add your Jell-O, gelatin, and KoolAid. Stir the mixture until the powder is completely dissolved.

Carefully pour or spoon the mixture into your prepped molds or pan. Place the mold into the refrigerator for 20 minutes.

After the time is up, remove the molds and pop out the shapes or cut out the candy using cookie cutters! It’s time to enjoy your sour creation.

The Extreme Sour Gummy

Now that you’ve made some simple gummy bears, are you ready to up the ante on your extreme sour gummies? This fruity gummy candy recipe is a slightly more complex version of the first recipe.

To start, you’ll need to gather the following ingredients:

  • 1 cup of any flavor juice
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup of warm water
  • 1 teaspoon of food coloring
  • 3 tablespoons of powdered gelatin
  • 1/2 cup of superfine sugar
  • 5 teaspoons of citric acid

Once you have all your ingredients in hand, you’re ready to start!

Start by pouring the water and juice into a pot. Warm the mixture on medium-high.

Next, add the granulated sugar and stir the mixture until the sugar is completely dissolved. After that, add the gelatin and continue mixing to dissolve the powder.

Once the sugar and gelatin are dissolved, add a few drops of food coloring. Stir the mixture until it is a consistent, bright color.

Pour the mixture into your gummy mold or pan and place it in the refrigerator. Leave the mixture to cool for at least an hour.

Once the mixture is set, remove it from the fridge and pop them out of the mold. Set them aside.

Mix the citric acid and superfine sugar together in a bowl. Then, toss your gummies in the mix. The result is a sour yet delicious candy!

The CBD Gummy

If you love store-bought CBD candy and want to try your hand at making your own sour gummies strain, this recipe is ideal.

To make this recipe, gather:

  • 1 cup of fruit juice
  • 2 tablespoons of gelatin
  • 2 tablespoons of honey (optional)
  • Your favorite CBD oil

To make the CBD gummy, start by warming the fruit juice and bringing it to a simmer. From there, add the gelatin to the mix.

If you want a sweeter gummy, now is the time to add your honey. Stir it until it is dissolved. If you want a super sour gummy, skip this step.

Remove the mixture from the heat and add your CBD oil. Stir the mixture thoroughly to combine the oil.

Next, pour the gummy mixture into your candy molds or a pan. Place it in the freezer and leave them for about an hour to set.

After the candies have finished setting, remove them from the molds. You can store them in the refrigerator for as many as 10 days!

The Vegan Gummy

So far, all our gummy recipes have included gelatin. If you’re vegan, you can still make some sour gummy recipes!

All you need are three ingredients:

  • 1 cup of apple juice
  • 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of agar powder

If you want to make your gummies colorful you can add vegan food coloring! However, this step is totally optional.

Either way, to make the gummies you’ll start by chilling your molds. This will help your gummies to set faster when they’re done.

Next, whisk together the sugar, agar powder, and apple juice in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring it constantly.

Keep the mixture simmering for 3 minutes. Make sure that you stir the mixture constantly so that it doesn’t get lumpy.

After 3 minutes, remove the mixture from the heat. Carefully fill the candy molds with the liquid.

Place the molds in the refrigerator. They will need to set for between 30 minutes and an hour.

Once the time is up, remove the candies and pop them out of the molds. Voilá! You have a tasty batch of vegan sour gummies!
